Welcome to the show. Cayla. Thanks for having me on and tell me about yourself first outside of your business.
Okay, well, I am a wife and I have three little kids seven, five and three. And I just relocated to Corona Del Mar California because I love being at the beach. So I was like, why am I not living at the beach. And, and so I’m just getting used to a new way of life down here and I love to work out. I’m all about health and fitness and super social as well. love getting out and meeting new people. That’s what I do for fun. So where’d you live before? Okay, I lived in a city called Bakersfield which is like, Central Valley, California. And, and we like to say that, you know, just basically ag there and oil. So there’s just was nothing to do.
Yeah. So I was born in Puerto Rico and I grew up in Florida. So to me living somewhere that’s not like 40 minutes away from the beach would suck.
And yeah, it did. It was kind of like, why if we could live anywhere in the world, why are we staying here. And so we finally just made the movie. We didn’t want to leave family. But it was kind of like, you know what, like, we have to follow our dreams. And we have to follow that calling on our heart. So that’s what we did. And we’re so happy.
Awesome. So when did you know that you were an entrepreneur?
Oh, my goodness. Well, I used to be an ER nurse. And probably about six years ago, I would say I knew that there was something more for me because I was moving up the ranks, you know, in the hospital life. And I got written up for eating at the nurse’s station. Oh, wow. And I was pregnant with my second kid. And I thought, Okay, this is just not for me anymore. You know, like, I hate being defined by somebody else. And so I started to look for other options. And and once I started working for myself, I knew there was no way I could ever go back to working for anybody. I just love the freedom of following all these different ideas I have, and really getting paid what I’m worth. So yeah, so it’s been about six years on this journey.
Okay, well, tell me about your business and how that started.
Ok. So I, what I did was I got started in network marketing six years ago, just because I had Oh, sorry, just because I didn’t know what it was that I really wanted to do. And I fell in love with a health and wellness company. And so I built a large business, I have an organization with that network marketing company that has about 60,000 people deep. So have been able to really benefit from that. And it’s helped grow me and shape me into an entrepreneur over the last couple of years. And I’ve just founded a company called mommy millionaire, where we are all about helping moms become shameless in pursuing their ambitions. So it involves success coaching, there’s going to be a live event this year, there’s also going to be a membership that’s launching in just a couple of months for all of those moms out there that need help with getting their mindset, right. So that way, they can make as much money as they want, and give back in as many ways as they want as well.
Okay, so what role did in network marketing have in helping with your mindset to branch out and start your own thing? Oh, my gosh, it was huge in that like, just that
I had never been exposed to personal development before. So the concept of, you know, being able to control my thoughts and how my thoughts could serve me was a whole new concept to me. And so once I learned that everything started to change for me, you know, I just had to start changing all these limiting beliefs I had had about myself, and I learned all of that by, you know, reading the books that my mentors told me about, you know, so it, it definitely played a huge role in my life. And what’s been your greatest entrepreneurial challenge so far?
Oh, my gosh, what challenge hasn’t come my way.
And I would say the thing that holds me back the most. And the hiccup that I always see is kind of the roller coaster of being an entrepreneur. So I don’t know if you’ve experienced this. But you know, it’s, it’s like one moment, there’s a big high and you have a big win, and you feel on top of the world, you feel unstoppable. And the next morning, you wake up and something something’s gone wrong in the business or something, you know, it could be anything and it throws you for a loop. And you fill out that all time low, where you just like, Oh, my gosh, I just give up. Am I really supposed to be doing this. And then it’s like, you’re climbing back up to the top again, you know, the, and it’s so it’s the constantly that roller coaster. But it’s so exhilarating. And you’re like, I don’t want to get off the ride. So I feel like that’s what it is. It just understood. I think once I started to understand that the life of an entrepreneur for newer is a roller coaster and to just accept that and stuff that it’s not always going to be a bunch of highs that there has to be lows, because it makes you even more grateful for the highest when they come. You know, so I think once I started to accept that it stopped being such a challenge. Yeah, I think one thing that I found is that you have these highs and then you have these extreme lows. But I feel like then the next time you get like to one of the high points, it’s much better than the letdown that you just experienced. Absolutely, absolutely. So aside from not wanting to work for someone else, and aside from your family, what’s your why, you know, I just have this calling that has been put on my life to empower women and to make them realize that if you’re not living out your full potential, you you’re not fulfilling your part in the puzzle piece. And, and so I just feel like that that’s my wise to get out there and empower, you know, women every single day. I’m putting myself out there all the time sharing my struggles and inspiring them that if I can do this, so can you and I think a lot of times, like, you know, there’s just not enough people out there sharing the real story and sharing what it actually takes. And I know that’s the calling that’s been placed on my life is to be real, and to just share everything that I’m going through. So that way I know it will help one person even if it just helps one person. I know that that’s my why that’s why I keep going every single day. That’s why I don’t give up. Yeah.
I love that because there’s so many people online, glamorizing entrepreneurship. And it’s discouraging to the people that haven’t even started and it’s not really really I like, I don’t think it’s because it’s not as glamorous as people make it seem, at least not in the beginning. And so to follow somebody’s story, and to learn about their struggles, and to see, oh, this person is not that much different from me. And if she can do it, I can, is really motivating, yes, that’s, that’s why I do what I do, what advice you have for someone that is just getting started in business to think bigger right now, I think sometimes, you know, people have this idea of what they want their business and their company to look like, and they have these realistic expectations for it. And I always tell people like think you know, way way bigger than that because what you visualize can actually happen and I wish that you know, I would have gotten that advice years ago like to think bigger right away and know that anything is possible because when you start surrounding yourself with the right people and you really start to have just 100% self belief and self reliance amazing, like miracles start to happen. And so just think big think so. freakin bag. Yeah, absolutely. I set some really crazy weird goal. No weird, but I said some really high goals for myself at the beginning of this year. And by like, the end of January, I was on my way to hitting those goals. And I’ve been in business for a long time. And it actually shocked me that it was just that easy. And I’m not saying that I don’t set goals ever because I do. But I was always setting little goals. Mm hmm. And I was meeting the little goals. And I think sometimes we do that, because we have this fear of failure. Mm hmm. And, you know, I just want to all the entrepreneurs out there to know like, embrace the failure, when you fail, you actually learn way more than you do from winning. And so you just have to embrace it. And it makes you reflect back and see what you could do better. Because sometimes when we just, you know, When, when, when, and we reach every goal, we don’t take any time for self reflection to see what we could have done better. But when we lose, we take that time to look back and say, Okay, I could have done this, this and this way better. And so you can just failure is always just about part of learning and growing and giving your best self. So yeah, that goes along with that. Love that advice. If you could have lunch with one business leader, who would it be?
Oh, my gosh, I love Gary van der Chuck. And I think he would be fun to have lunch with or Arianna Huffington. Just because I feel like you know, she’s all about women empowerment, and the stuff that she was an immigrant and she was able to come up the way that she has and empower so many people out there and really evolve as a businesswoman, you know, Mm hmm. So, I love that. I think she would be so fun to just pick her brain, you know, Gary is coming here for this. It’s like his, one of his first times doing a public like speech, you know, he always does like private events. And I saw an ad for the event on Facebook. And I was like, is, this looks like Gary is not really going to be there. And I hadn’t heard him talk about it. Right. And, and then he did, and by the time he did, the most affordable seating was sold out. And then he’s also having like, this private dinner with only 12 people. And he’s doing like, a mastermind session with a larger group of people are, like, super excited, but I love him too. That’s awesome. Yeah, I wish I could go. But it’s in a few months. It’s not gonna happen. But, uh, yeah. So if you see some, like a Facebook ad in your area beyond? Yeah, you know, I thought it was fake. Because it was like Tony Robbins. And Gary bear check. And when the guys from Shark Tank, and I’m like, this isn’t real.
See, you gotta believe in miracles. Exactly. Yeah.
What’s your favorite business book? Oh, um, right now, I really love rocket fuel. And I can’t remember who wrote the book. But it’s all about the fact that if you’re a visionary, you need to hire an integrator, like as soon as possible, because then you could focus on your strength of being futuristic and coming up with ideas and let the integrator you know, really do the How to and the practical side of things. Because that used to hang me up for a long time, I would just try to like, micromanage everybody and try to like, and I’m the visionary. So it would end up just being a hot mess, because I have all these ideas. And so I have my team, you know, like changing one moment moment from the next doing my next great idea when if I had an integrator in place that just kept things on track. And, you know, said, No, we’re focusing on this idea right now. And we’re going to make sure it’s super thorough, and we’re going to make sure this is all working out, then we can move on to the next idea. I wish I would have known that a while back. And now I finally have that team in place, and things are going so much more smoother. And I can focus on just being my creative self and the company can grow because I have, you know, a team in place that’s focused on the logistics of things. What’s the name again? Mommy Millionaire? Oh, no. What’s the name of the bow? Sorry, look, it’s called rocket fuel. It is so good. And I just felt like gut shots the whole time because it was like, Oh, my gosh, my ego gets in my way so often, because I always think I’m a recovering control freak. So I’m always like, trying to, you know, manage every part of my business and it never works out well. That way people end up quitting on you and you just don’t have a good team culture. I am trying to find it. But I’m getting like books about space now. Not wait. No, I found it now.
Okay. Yeah, it was a few books about space and cooking, but I found it by the way, if you’re listening this is it’s by Gino work. Okay, what’s your favorite internet resource or app that just makes your life easier?
Okay, I would have to say I’m obsessed with the bleakest app I’ve been using it for like a year now. And it has a lot of popular books on there that basically give you the cliff notes version. So I love the bleakest app I also love Oh my gosh, having a base camp I love base camp so I can talk with my employees and basically like we know exactly what because we work virtually so exactly what everybody’s working on that day. We can put little tasks in there, we could let each other see our progress on what we’re working on and stuff and it makes life so much easier.
I’m going to try out blankets because I tried out mentor box, which was I guess it’s similar and I didn’t really like it because the audio is so long and you got to do workbooks and stuff and I’m just trying to like, listen on the go do a workbook for that. Oh, yeah, the book, right?
Yeah, I love bleakest. I mean I’ve been able to read some incredible books and just get because, you know, I’m the type of person when I’m reading a book anyway. I especially like self development books. I I rarely read it, you know, from the cover to the back. I’m usually skipping around trying to find like, what I want to what’s calling to me, you know, so you get just the very best of the book. You know, they’ll books I like to read from like, front cover to the back, or like autobiographies. I love that kind of stuff. And like rocket fuel, I read that whole entire thing just because every piece of it was so important. Where can listeners find you online? Where do you hang out online?
